Abiral Rai is a fully certified IFMGA/UIAGM and NNMGA mountain guide from Nepal, and an accomplished adventure photographer. As the first Everest summiteer from the Thulung Rai indigenous community of eastern Nepal, he has summited Everest three times and is the first IFMGA-certified guide from the Rai community. With over 15 years of experience, he began as a porter and progressed to lead expeditions on 21 peaks in Nepal, including Everest, Lhotse, and Manaslu. His international ascents include Aconcagua (South America), multiple Alpine summits, Peak Lenin (Central Asia), the first ascent of Kuksay Peak (Pamir Mountains, China), and Carstensz Pyramid (Indonesia, 2025), the highest peak in Oceania. Abiral has documented major Himalayan expeditions and contributed to projects such as the 2017 National Geographic film The Last Honey Hunter, and in 2022 guided the Nepal Army’s Everest expedition during the government’s Mountain Clean-up Campaign.
