Overview
Since its launch in 2009 with 2 instructors and 5 participants, the Rock-Climbing Level-1 Training, organized by the Nepal Mountaineering Instructors Association (NMIA), has been a premier 14-day, 84-hour intensive program for beginners and aspiring climbers eager to master foundational rock-climbing skills. Conducted in the scenic Kathmandu Valley and Bimalnagar, Tanahun District, Nepal, this training equips up to 30 participants per session with essential technical, safety, and teamwork skills to climb confidently and responsibly. The program blends theoretical instruction, hands-on practice, and real-world climbing experiences, covering techniques such as knot tying, lead climbing, rappelling, and route setting. Emphasizing safety, environmental awareness, and personal growth, this training prepares participants for advanced climbing pursuits and supports the development of a skilled national climbing community.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Tie essential climbing knots and set up rope systems for various climbing scenarios.
- Execute safe lead climbing, rappelling, and twin-rope techniques.
- Communicate effectively using standard climbing commands and protocols.
- Demonstrate risk awareness and implement safety practices for personal and group safety.
- Release a stuck climber during twin-rope climbing scenarios.
- Understand the basics of opening new climbing routes using a drill machine.
- Identify and mitigate environmental impacts during climbing activities.
- Apply problem-solving skills and teamwork in challenging climbing situations.
- Demonstrate proper care and maintenance of climbing equipment.
- Build confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of achievement through climbing.

Mandatory Requirements
To enroll in the Rock-Climbing Level-1 Training, participants must provide:
- Photocopy of citizenship or passport
- Two passport-sized photos
- Insurance coverage: NPR 10,00,000 (accident insurance) and NPR 3,00,000 (medical insurance)
- Completion of:
- Basic Mountain Navigation & Hill Walking Training (18 hours / 3 days)
- Introductory Rock-Climbing Course (42 hours / 7 days)
- Basic Mountain Rescue Training (42 hours / 7 days)
